STATUS: CURRENT

EUreka3D-XR is a continuation of the EUreka3D project and aims to develop innovative scenarios and tools that enable the creation of extended reality (XR) applications. The project is primarily aimed at cultural heritage institutions.
EUreka3D-XR – European Union’s REKonstructed content in 3D to produce XR experience – is a continuation of the EUreka3D project and aims to develop innovative scenarios and tools that enable the creation of extended reality (XR) applications. The project aims to expand the features and services available through the EUreka3D initiative. The project’s offerings are primarily aimed at cultural heritage institutions.

As part of the project, it will be possible to transform various types of cultural content (including 2D, 3D, video, text, and maps) into augmented reality scenarios and then make them available in the Common European Cultural Heritage Data Space. Five open-source digital tools will be delivered, including online services and mobile applications that support the innovative reuse and exploitation of 3D cultural resources across diverse environments and institutions.

The EUreka3D-XR project will also promote the reuse of digitized cultural heritage across multiple fields and research areas, including those related to education and tourism.

Detailed project objectives:
  • developing a set of guidelines and recommendations based on the results of the VIGIE 2020/654 study regarding the creation of high-quality 3D content;
  • utilizing the EUreka3D data center for computing resources and storage, and expanding the range of tools and services for processing cultural content, primarily in 3D formats, to create new XR datasets;
  • utilizing the program of seminars, workshops, and demonstrations initiated in the EUreka3D project and enriching it with new elements focused on the creation of XR resources.
As part of the project, WCSS will implement a storage system for data generated using XR technology.

The project is being carried out by a consortium consisting of:
  • International Consortium for Photographic Heritage, PHOTOCONSORTIUM, Italy (Coordinator);
  • Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), Cyprus;
  • Centre for Image Research and Diffusion (CRDI), Spain;
  • Bibracte, France;
  • National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece;
  • Europeana Foundation, Netherlands;
  • EGI Foundation, Netherlands;
  • Wrocław University of Technology, Wrocław Centre for Networking and Supercomputing, Poland;
  • Imec, Belgium;
  • Software Engineering Italia (SE.IT), Italy;
  • Meemoo, Belgium;
  • MIRALab, Switzerland.
