STATUS: CURRENT

The goal of the project "National Data Repository. Universal Infrastructure for Data Storage and Sharing, and for the Efficient Processing of Large Data Volumes in HPC, Big Data, and Artificial Intelligence Models" (KMD4EOSC) is to develop and strengthen research and innovation capabilities and the use of advanced technologies in the field of large-scale data storage and management.
The project “National Data Repository: A Universal Infrastructure for Data Storage, Sharing, and the Efficient Processing of Large Data Volumes in HPC, Big Data, and Artificial Intelligence Models” (KMD4EOSC) is funded by the European Union. As part of the project, infrastructure, services, and applications will be designed, built, and implemented for the storage and collection of scientific and economic data, as well as for their processing, analysis, and effective sharing—in accordance with best practices, requirements, and regulations—for the needs of the scientific community and the economy.

Scope of Activities

The overarching goal of the project is to establish a national EOSC (European Open Science Cloud) node, connected within a federated European environment to the European Commission’s EOSC EU Node and other national nodes of EU member states. It will serve as a tool enabling the deposit of raw data obtained from scientific or research from the NCN (National Science Centre), NCBR (National Centre for Research and Development), and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. It thus implements the principles of open science and initiates the creation of the EOSC, which is tasked with supporting the management and use of research data to ensure that scientists have access to data-driven science.

Target Groups

The project will benefit the scientific and R&D communities, including universities, institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN), R&D entities—State Research Institutes (PIB), units from the Łukasiewicz Research Network, the broader economy, including entities particularly interested in new technologies and their use to build competitive advantage during the digital transformation, public administration, and the general public in terms of access to open data in a non-discriminatory and equitable manner for all.

Key Activities of WCSS

The Wrocław Supercomputing and Networking Center serves as the project’s technology partner, responsible for developing infrastructure and software components that enable the storage, sharing, and secure management of research data. The Center is developing its own software module and participates in the work of four thematic laboratories.
  1. Rozwój własnego komponentu oprogramowania „Platforma programowa do obsługi danych składowanych w KMD4EOSC.
  2. Udział w zadaniach czterech laboratoriów tematycznych.
  3. Eksploatacja i utrzymanie komponentu KMD4EOSC.
  4. Wdrożenie zasad FAIR i wsparcie otwartej nauki.
  5. Aktywność edukacyjna i rozwojowa.
