Krajowy Magazyn Danych

STATUS: CURRENT

Project KMD, precisely Krajowy Magazyn Danych. Universal infrastructure for data storage and sharing as well as effective processing of large data volumes in HPC models, BigData and artificial intelligence is a continuation of projects KMD i KMD2.
The aim of the project is to develop and build an open, modular, extensible, decentralized and scalable data storage. Data storage would be connected to the existing scientific and research IT infrastructure in Poland. The project assumes that by the end of 2024, the data storage infrastructure will be increased by 200 petabytes, and the tape memory capacity by 180 petabytes. KMD will have series of access interfaces and applications, which will allow it to offer integrated services and mechanisms supporting effective and safe storage and access to data, long-term data management, data exploatation, analysis and effective processing. The essence of KMD is the ability to secure and manage metadata, as well as the integration of solutions for processing large and complex data volumes on the basis of a distributed infrastructure. This will enable the integration of analytical platforms, solutions that involve machine learning and artificial intelligence with HPC (High Performance Computing) and HTC (High Throughput Computing) systems in HPC centers.

The national data storage created as part of the project will consist of an economic and scientific part, and the services offered will provide access to resources to users from various groups - from students, through scientists, to commercial customers.

The project will be carried out by the Consortium of following institutions:
  • Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences – Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (project leader)
  • AGH University of Science and Technology – The Academic Computer Centre CYFRONET AGH
  • National Centre for Nuclear Research – Świerk Computing Centre
  • Bialystok University of Technology
  • Czestochowa University of Technology
  • Gdańsk University of Technology – Centre of Informatics Tricity Academic Supercomputer and network
  • Lodz University of Technology
  • Kielce University of Technology
  • Wrocław University of Technology – Wroclaw Centre for Networking and Supercomputing
